The Los Angeles Dodgers back-end ace is set to have heart surgery on Monday, November 26. Kenley Jansen made the announcement in an interview on Friday at the Dodgers yearly Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway event. The 30-year-old from Willemstad, Curacao seemed optimistic while talking to reporters about his upcoming operation.

Jansen has always been a Dodger since his time as a young catcher in the organization, and then his transition into a pitcher. He has already compiled 268 saves over his nine-year MLB career. Jansen gave the Dodgers, arguably, a hometown deal with his re-signing last off-season.

Jansen’s Outlook

His prognosis should have the top reliever back to the Dodgers in time for spring training at Camelback Ranch. In the best-case scenario, Jansen is restricted from physical activities for only two weeks. “If we don’t find anything, so let’s say they go in and nothing happens, everything is good,” explained Jansen, “I will be done in two weeks. But if something is abnormal, then I’ll be down for eight weeks.” Jansen also stated that he believes he will be ready for Opening Day 2019. That is great news for Dodgers fans. After all, this is not elbow surgery we are talking about; it is heart surgery.

The three-time All-Star will have time to heal and get himself back to full strength by spring training, and that is welcome news for any bullpen. Jansen had a similar procedure done in 2012, and he missed time this season due to heart-related issues. Although Jansen has a positive outlook on the situation, it has been reoccurring of late. The Dodgers all-time saves leader, by over 100 saves, Jansen is vital to Los Angeles. Prayers for a full and complete recovery to the big fella.
